Meet the Coaches

  • Gretchen Wesbrock

Gretchen Wesbrock, or as the swimmers call her, Coach G, has swimming in her blood! She began swimming competitively as a 4 year old. Her older brother found a love of the sport and she decided to follow in his footsteps…or flippers. She continued her USA swimming career through high school at Mountain View High School in Mesa, Arizona. She had the opportunity to swim on the women’s state winning team! Swimming took her to college at Northern Arizona University where she made the difficult decision to hang up her goggles and get involved in leadership at NAU. She has taught swim lessons, Lifeguard Instructor Training, Water Safety Instructor Training, CPR, and First Aid for the American Red Cross. Coach G began coaching as a junior in high school for the City of Apache Junction Rec Team and the Red Mountain Country Club team. She has coached age groupers all the way to master’s swimmers. She has coached the Mingus Marauders for 7 seasons and is excited about returning for her 5th year as the Clippers Head Coach. Swimmers joke about Coach G’s inspirational t-shirts but she truly believes that swimming is a lifelong sport that helps build character and helps you push yourself beyond the barriers you have in your own mind!

  • Susanna Ventura

Susanna Ventura, A-Prep and C-Team coach, was a Cottonwood Clipper from 1993-2000 and a Mingus swimmer from 1997-2000. Susanna worked as a water safety instructor for many years, and coached the Flagstaff Athletic Club’s Torpedoes swim team from 2009-2012. She is entering her 14th school year as a teacher, her second season as a swim coach for the Clippers, and is a proud mom to two Clipper swimmers.

  • Kyla SanGiovanni

Coach Kyla, b-team coach has been swimming competitively since she was 10, including four years at Mingus and on the Clippers, where she loved swimming butterfly. She has also been a Clippers coach since 2010. She attended Grand Canyon University online for her Bachelor's of Elementary Education and Master's in Reading. This will be her 7th year teaching elementary-aged students. She is a mom to one sweet little boy born in 2021 and one daughter due in 2023. She loves coaching swimmers of all levels and ages and is very proud to be a Clippers coach!

  • Katey Williams

Born and raised in the Verde Valley, Katey Williams has been a Clipper since she was 10 years old, and has been coaching since she was about 15. She attended NAU for her teaching degree, where she also played rugby and lacrosse. She taught 4th-7th grade special education for 1 year at Beaver Creek school before having her first baby in April 2019, and becoming a stay-at-home-mom. Swimming runs in the family. Katey’s mother and 2 brothers swam; in addition, her 12 year old step daughter currently swims for the Clippers. Katey has a passion for swim technique and enjoys working with the 9/10 age group to see them perfect all 4 strokes, turns, and starts before moving on to B-Team, and eventually A-Team. She is looking forward to seeing all the familiar faces and meeting new ones. She is excited to be coaching B-Team for the first time this season. Proud to be a Clipper!
